Wanted to start doing a weekly update so I could keep myself accountable, and to keep the site relevant to myself. I have been lacking posting the last couple of weeks, but that is because I have been doing way too much other things. Summer is super hard to just code because we want to do far to much other stuff. My weekends are taken up by Movie night, Cook Outs, gaming, and trips to see family and friends. We are halfway through the summer and I hope to start winding into a new routine that will keep the site updated, as well as making fresh content every week. So for now I just have an update on a new project (I know, how many does this guy do) and an update on Drop Spin.
So I have been hard at it the last few weeks tweaking and messing around with the animations, and GUI for the game and hopefully will have an update soon. I hate these kind of updates, where someone really doesn’t say anything other than there will be an update later. It’s kind of like releasing a teaser trailer for a teaser trailer for a trailer….
Anyway I don’t want to be that guy so I’ll kind of explain what I have been doing. I started putting in animations for when the Pieces spin, when the rows get created, when they drop in the level, and when they get destroyed. I was first doing it by pure math and transform manipulation, but that seemed kind of ‘Hacky’ as well as really time consuming. So I decided to do the normal programmer thing and see if someone has already written something I can use 🙂
I ended up using EasyTween from the Unity Asset store. It was easy enough to learn and implement, and since my game is really simplistic there is no need for an exhausting system to make everything. Last week I got it all hooked up and now it just boils down to creating all the animations for each Row, Circle, button, you get the idea.
I have 2 months until I release the game, or when I hope to release the game, so hopefully once I get animations done will almost get there. After that I will need to implement a power up system, and a donation system in the game. I don’t want to charge money for this, but if someone wants to float a few cents, I would be alright with that..
Anyway that’s where it is. Pretty uneventful in the grand scheme of things.
New Project: www.stream.funpsycho.com
I am going to start to be creating a web app that will be more of a pet project to learn React and some other things. It’s basically a clone of http://www.viewsync.net. It will be the same basic concept as this site, but be a bit more user friendly and thought it would be a neat project. I’ll write up what I want to do in another article this week.
So I have a goal starting today to have daily activity on my site. This could be a wide array of things, but I need to start posting regularly and this is how I think I can do it. So here’s what you can expect this week:
- Monday: This article
- Tuesday: Full post about the web app
- Wednesday: An article about a game I have recently been playing (AC: Unity)
- Thursday: The return of my podcast (bum bum buuuuuuum)
- Friday: Drop Spin Update
I won’t be posting things on the weekend because I don’t want to….. I think I will just do weekdays until I get into the routine. If I feel I have more to say that is meaningful, then I will see about the weekends. Oh and next weekend I think I finally found a solution so I can continue on with Alpha Bits 🙂 So stay tuned for that return as well.
Hopefully this isn’t too boring for you, whoever you may be, but I think it will help me finish what I start. I know I have said that in the past, but I really need to stick to it and to quote the infamous poet Larry the Cable Guy, I will have to “Get ‘Er Done”.
Lastly but definitely not least, my bud setup his own website. His is more (so far) about retro gaming and board games. I think he intends on making it just about whatever he wants so give him a little love and go check it out.
http://www.confessionsofagameaholic.com/ He has all the other links to different social sites there as well.
That’s it for today. I never really know how to end these, so I may start doing a fun fact.
Not really a sports guy, but this is kind of interesting…
“In 1954 the Baltimore Colts became the first NFL team to have cheerleaders. They were part of the Baltimore Colts Marching Band. Most NFL cheer leading squads are a part-time job.”
